Plasma Cutting

Plasma cutting is the term used to describe the cutting of steel and other metals, or sometimes other materials, using a plasma torch. Throughout this process, an inert gas, like compressed air, is blown at high speed out of a nozzle. While this is happening, an electrical arc is created in the gas between the nozzle and the surface being cut, turning some gas to plasma. This plasma has a high enough heat to melt the metal and moves quickly enough to blow molten metal away from the cut. Rustic Designs utilizes plasma cutting technology to stay on the cutting-edge of the metalworks industry.

Russell uses two different computer programs to start the initial design. The first is used to draw all proofs to send to customers for review, the other is used to operate a the PlasmaCAM. The PlasmaCAM controls the 4' x 4' plasma table that cuts all the designs out of metal. The PlasmaCAM software gives Russell the opportunity to make sure the measurements, cuts, lines and angles are precise. PlasmaCAM also allows a design to be created from a picture of a person, object or an animal and with a few adjustments be able to cut out a silhouette in metal of what the picture is.
