Metal Options
Steel is an alloy consisting mostly of iron, with a carbon content between 0.2% and 2.14% by weight, depending on grade. Steel sheet metal gauge, sometimes spelled "gage," indicates the standard thickness of the sheet metal. As the gauge number increases, the material thickness decreases. The gauge of sheet metal ranges from 35 gauge to about 6 gauge. Thickness can vary significantly, although extremely thin thickness are considered foil or leaf, and pieces thicker than 6 mm (0.25 in) are considered plate.
Rustic Designs normally uses 16 gauge hot rolled steel, but Russell will accommodate whatever type of metal that is feasible to the project. 16 gauge steel is sturdy and light enough for some of the smaller pieces. If the piece needs lots of structure then Russell will use thicker metal. Russell can also work with stainless steel, copper, brass, aluminum, and any gauge of steel!
